The timing belt ensures the synchronization between the upper and lower parts of the engine. The consequences of a failure may be serious, going as far as requiring a replacement engine!
ANTECIPATING THE RISKS
Generally, a worn out timing belt does not give any warnings. Often, when the warning signs appear, it is already too late. It is therefore important to anticipate wear and think of changing your timing belt if your vehicle:
- Is more than 4 years' old - Has covered considerable mileage over the last few years
Warning: a worn out belt gives no notice! Speak to your local Renault dealer to find out the maintenance program for your vehicle.
In order to optimise the life span of your engine, we recommend that you:
- Follow the maintenance program for your vehicle.
- Preventively change your timing and accessories belt between 60,000 and 160,000 km or
every 4 to 5 years, even if the mileage has not been reached.
